As a church leadership team, like many of you we are in a time of grieving following the recent news about Shawn Bolz’s years of deception and abuse, causing so much damage to so many lives in the Body of Christ. We applaud the public exposure of what he’s done and Bethel Redding’s response and apologies, and we ask you to join us in praying for the victims. If you’d like to read Bethel’s statement, you can do so here. Without commenting in detail, it’s clear that there have been significant failings within the charismatic church in protecting the vulnerable and that reform is needed. The directors and trustees have already been working for some time on plans to bring greater accountability within our own leadership teams, but we are responding to this situation as an opportunity for further reflection and self-examination.
